Honda S600: The Greatest Classic and Luxury Honda Roadster

Now, let’s move to the Honda S600. After releasing Honda S500 roadster and its production had finished in 1963. Honda would have planned to make new series called Honda S600. We will get new alteration in this car. It was launched in March 1964 and available as a roadster – a lil bit resemble to the Honda S500 - and as a coupe was introduced in March 1965 and It was quite cheaper than roadster. During its production was up to 1966, the model and style were still pretty much the same as S500 with the most significant changes and improvement to the front grille, bumper, and headlamps.

The second roadster from Honda is powered by a DOHC, water-cooled, four-cylinder inline engine with four carburetors, the engine capacity was increased to 606 cc from the S500's 531 cc. This engine produced up to 57 hp (43 kW) at 8500 rpm and had a top speed of 90 mph (140 km / h). The suspension was independent to be sealed with roller chain drive to each rear wheel. We can be convinced with its performance of this car. Dont worry, we will not be disappointed.

The S600 1964-1996 was the first huge market and production from Honda car. Honda was trully confident to reach market in the world. First offered only in right-hand drive, after that, it soon became available in left-hand drive to get the export market. Different with S500 there are a few production of S500s manufactured in left-hand drive only. Both the S600 roadster and coupé were available in standard trim and a special, improved package, such as special paint colors. There was some variance color of this car such as black, white, red, yellow, blue. Then, an exclusive badging, a standard radio and speaker, we can enjoy driving car then turn on the radio and choose the favorite program easily. A special antenna in the passenger side sun visor, standard reversing lights, a standard cigarette lighter, a standard heater, better cushioned seats, and a detachable seat for quick removal of the passenger seat. All this features were made so innovative, it will make the driver easy, weary, not wasting much energy and we will focus to drive along the trip. What a great car!

Then, next to the dimension, it had dimensions wheelbase 2000 mm, length 3,300, widht 1,400, height 1,200, curb weight 715 kg. 3912 Honda roadsters S600 produced in 1964, and 1519 coupe in 1965. Then, the productions of these cars was decreased in 1966 (when they prepared to make S800) with only 111 roadsters and 281 coupes. The price as its roadster is about $12,000. Then, Honda released new variance named Honda S800.

S500 The Classics Roadster From Honda

If we always think about car which only can take us to go every where easily is very common because it’s been along time, many companies produce several super cars that have many gorgeous features, great designs, adorable facilities, etc. It’s called roadster car. Not only enjoying the trip while we drive to go somewhere but also we can use all those super features from a roadster car. Now, keep reading this article to know more deeply about a roadster from Honda, one of the biggest manufactures in the world.

Honda started to produce roadster in about 1960. The first Honda’s roadster was named Honda S500. It was released in 1963. It was a larger displacement variant than the roadster Honda S360, as the additional information, Honda had ever informed S360 before releasing S500. Although S360 was developed to plan for sale in 1962, but finally it was never produced.

The S500 used a high-tech engine which was developed from Honda's motorcycle expertise. Wow, it was such as getting ready to create a fabulous super car from Honda at that time. It had a double overhead cam straight-4 with four carburetors and 9,500 rpm redline. Actually, Honda wanted to build this car about 492 cc, but when the car was having process of production, 531 cc version was final decision to produce and it had 44 hp at 8000 rpm. The weight was only 1500 pounds (680 kg), it’s quite small S500 but it could reach 80 mph (129 km / h). It was really powerful as its era.

The Super Car S500 1963 – 1964 also used a 4-speed manual transmission with chain drive at the rear wheels. A four-wheel independent suspension was a new high-tech from Honda, with a torsion bar in the front and diagonal coilover shock absorbers at the rear. The interior and exterior were also comfortable and quite powerful. It was totally attractive design with the soft seat. It made a driver getting pleasant.

Honda S500 is classified as sport car and having two doors of roadster as body style, it’s very exotic . The layout was FR (Front Engine) style where the engine was located in the front of car. The dimensions of car were having wheelbase 2,000 mm, lenght 3,300 mm, width 1,430 mm, height 1,200 mm. This car was priced at $ 1,275 in 1963 and an optional fiberglass hardtop was also available. The S500 produced from October 1963 to September 1964 and in about one year of production, Honda had been produced 1363 cars (136 in 1963, and 1227 in 1964) in the world wide. Then, Honda continued to produce the larger engine named S600.
